Did you know Chrysanthemums bloom according to sunlight patterns that occur because of seasonal changes? It’s true. Once the days start to shorten after the summer equinox the mumms begin to take in less light and begin to set blooms. Weather patterns can also trigger the budding.
Although Chrysanthemums are most thought of as fall bloomers, there are varieties that bloom earlier into mid-summer. To prevent them from blooming until fall we cut the stems back by half, usually in early July. This should delay the budding, but if left to bloom they will most likely not re-bloom for you in the fall.
