Design does make a Difference

When gardens are installed without a plan it tends to result in several different garden areas which have very little in common.  The landscape may be full but, without a design, the spaces are not as functional or as fluid as they could be.   This leaves you with all of the maintenance and not as much to enjoy. Taking the time to carefully lay out a landscape design that fits your desires and reflects the architecture of your home, will give way to a timeless and enjoyable space that flows with thoughtful structure.

A design demands thoughtful consideration of the environmental elements and end goals for the space.  The landscape can be geared towards entertaining, relaxing escape, inspiration, or whatever you envision.  To put the ideas down on paper help show the overall shape and flow of the landscape ensuring aesthetic continuity and functionality.  Knowing the big picture and considering the everyday details involved in this are important; Greenlife’s design team prides themselves in having the training to do just that.  We consider the opportunities and constraints of the landscape and balance them your unique style to create a landscape all your own.

When considering a new landscape project there are few things to consider that will help a designer bring your ideas to fruition.

1)      Know yourself– What style do you have in mind? (country, modern, formal, cottage) Do you have any major likes or dislikes in plants, colors, structures, etc…? (don’t want any more trees, but want a water feature;  hate roses; love the color yellow)

2)      Know your end goal – What is the main purpose behind this project? (entertaining area, privacy, family lounge area, kitchen garden, flowering garden)

3)      Know what you want to invest into your project – Do you want a lot done but need to take it in phases?  Are there other projects that need to be done first? (siding, pool, vegetable garden)

The other benefit of having a comprehensive plan is that you can break the entire design into smaller more manageable projects but still have an end result that is cohesive.  This is a great option if your budget doesn’t allow for your entire vision to be completed in one step.  We will consider the design and budget and recommend phases that the project can be broken into and which ones should be done first and which can wait until the end.   This allows you to create the backyard of your dreams without breaking the bank in the process.  As you sit in your new contemporary landscape surrounded by clean lines and bold accents or your secluded cottage garden with colors and textures bursting forth around you or whatever type of garden you can envision, you will see the value of thinking of the entire project as a whole and thank yourself for spending the time to come up with a comprehensive plan.g
