There are a lot of pests and diseases that can affect evergreens, but one of the more obvious pests are Bag worms. If you see tiny pine cones that look like the associated photo you have bag-worms attached to your tree. They create movable cocoons to disguise themselves and then crawl out the top and eat the needles or leaves down the branch. They can strip a plant if left too long. These pests can usually be found in May or June and will eat until August or September when they enter the next stage of their life cycle. If you only find a few attached to your plants you can pull them off and dispose of them. If the numbers are overwhelming call your local chemical applicator for a treatment.
