Roses are one of the staples of the landscape world, probably because of their long standing show of beautiful blooms. They begin blooming in May or June and do not typically stop until September or October, weather dependent. All summer long our maintenance team prunes and dead heads these flowers to help keep them healthy and flowering abundantly. We typically stop dead heading the roses in September for good reason. This gives the rose time to develop rose hips and stop flowering before frost hits. In turn this signals the rose to begin going dormant for the year, helping to protect it from early hard frost. A little added mulch at the base will also help protect them through the fluctuating winter temps. Come spring you can slowly remove the protection and watch them flourish!
